Anybody have a gun safe upstairs and if so how much does it weigh? Wife wants me to move mine up to the bonus room which is the outdoor room in the house and I'd like to but wondering about the weight. Its a Stack-on Elite that is appx 450 lbs empty.
Edited by Gravey (01/18/13 09:05 PM) Edit Reason: corrected the weight

Have her help you move it, I'll bet half way up the stairs she changes her mind.

Have her help you move it, I'll bet half way up the stairs she changes her mind. Ain't that the truth! It's currently in my office which is in the front of the house so I really want to move it too. I moved it with a dolly and some straps by myself when I moved it from its original place so I'm not worried too much about the weight. Just want to be sure the floor can support it fine.

Depending on construction, floor might be ok.
Do keep in mind if you have a fire it will drop right through. May not matter at that point, but.......

Man, wrestling a 600 lb safe up a flight of stairs is enough to make you give up guns and take up knitting...

Can't weigh more than a water bed, but the bed is spred out over several joists. Still wouldn't want to take it up stairs though.

I have thought about building a platform of some type out of 2x4's just to spread the weight across the floor joist better. Not sure it would matter or not though.
