Is it necessary to eat something if you truly aren't hungry? I have spells of just flat out not wanting to eat but force myself to eat something anyway. Would it really hurt me if I skipped a day here and there?
Pros and cons??

Buy some good protein powder....two kinds...buy some cassein protein powder (protein from meat) and some whey protein powder. Your muscles need to be fed daily...your bones need to be fed daily. If you don't want to eat, put 32 grams of whey protein powder in a 16oz bottle of water...drink enough of that water to allow you to put the protein in (this will also help with hydration and allow you to put the powder in the bottle)...shake it until it's all mixed and drink it down...twice a day.

At night before going to bed do the same thing with the cassein protein..cassein protein powder will not mix as well but it is slow to be used by the body and will last you through the night.

Unless you want to be one of those "bent over old women" some day feed yourself some supplements like calcium, iron, minerals, etc also...some of the protein powder now has all of that in it...check out Beverly International and GNC

Finally, drink bottled water..keep hydrated

Brought to you by the former owner/founder of Michigan Bodybuilding News, Pumphouse Productions and over 50 Mr Tri-State! lol

Thanks Coach. I do take calcium and d3 and another supplement. I will go see what GNC has. Maybe a protein shake will be tolerable on the days I don't want food. Too bad it's not every day. Lol Some days I feel like I'm gonna starve. Chocolate cures that. \:D

RutMan- I take an xmam each day around 9 or so.

We sell a few kinds at Cvs (can you say discount?). Does it matter what brand of whey protein? Anything in particular I need to look for or avoid?

I know plenty of people that force themselves to eat. Depends on your goals. Your body does better when your calorie intake isn't all over the place. My snacks when I wasn't really hungry were almonds and cottage cheese.

My calorie intake is never the same. If I eat breakfast, I have to make myself. I rarelt want to eat while I'm at work. Sometimes I want supper, some days I don't. It's weird but then so am I. \:D

Yes you need to at least get some protein shakes work, breakfast is a must even if it is only a shake. if you do not eat when you get up you may not feel like eating because your body will go into self preservation mode

Pros and cons??

Your body's metabolism generally goes into "starvation" mode if you haven't eaten in a while. Small, more frequent meals is more appropriate than sporadic large meals.

Tafkap is right about the starvation mode. Restricting your diet will jolt your body into starvation mode. This causes your body to burn lean muscle. Less muscle mass will cause a lower metabolic rate which will slow down any weight loss.

I'd try Super Mix, you'll get all the real nutrients and vitamins needed daily that your body can/will absorb.

I think the supermix would be great but unless i read it wrong it would not meet your needs as a protein replacement. Supermix has 1 gram of protein - we are suppose to get between 10 and 35% of our daily calories from protein so going without eating and only adding supermix would not solve the issue at hand.

Read up on you protein intake Bow'd... Getting too little protein can be dangerous and can happen before you know it when your appetite is not present. Protein is really easy to get, whether from food or from shakes and its critical to your well being.

When I was in the best shape of my life - doing P90X like it was easy I was eating 6 times a day.. Several of those times would be almonds or unsalted peanuts and I was keeping up with calorie intake through a free calorie calculator on livestrong's website..

Yes, fuel your body about every 3 hours. It helps keep your metabolism up and going. It could be anything from a protein drink to a piece of fruit.

The best form of protein powder is whey. To break it down further..the best form of whey is a whey isolate or even a whey hydrolysate. The whey protein is a faster digesting from of protein as opposed to soy or egg or casein. Your best bet is to ingest some form of a good quality protein about every 2.5 to 3 hours. If your just not hungry then a protein supplement would be a good option. One of the best brands of this is Optimum Nutrition. Their Gold Standard Whey is a very good protein, but their Hydrowhey is even better but a little more expensive. Its also a good idea to take some form of a Casein protein(milk based) before bed. It takes 6-8 hours to digets, thus feeding your body while you sleep. Hope this helps.

Eightpointer - I take the wally world brand http://supplementreviews.com/body-fortress/premium-whey-protein simply because its the cheapest and has good reviews. I dont know diddly about digestion etc however after reading your post I'm interested in the casein protein (so I'll be checking the low price folks at wally world later to see if they have it )
The other reason I switched to the wally world stuff was - they keep it all the time and I never run out due to it being readily available.

Well, wally world has the caseine protein SO I'll be picking up some up later.. Maybe that will help with my daily muscle pain from being too dang old to lift weights 4 days a week - but doing so anyway \:D http://www.walmart.com/ip/15724171?adid=...Product+Reviews

If it helps...you can get very good prices on name brand supplements ordering online from bodybuilding.com. You don't have to be a bodybuilder, powerlifter, etc..Their site is secure and also have some good info. on it as well. If you don't mind the taste or texture and want to save some money cottage cheese is also a good form of casein. I hate the stuff myself though.

My Mom loved it, too. That and buttermilk. Yuck!! I would have taken the beating, too. She tried a few times to make me eat it and got the same result every time. She gave up. lol

Okay. I found a protein shake mix that has whey and casein in it. It had pieces of chocolate cookie, too. That had to be what sold me on trying it. \:\) I will at least do one in the morning since I rarely eat when I work.

If trying to lose fat and you don't eat..your body's metabolism will slow down. It will actually burn muscle and store fat to save for energy. Now obviously if you don't eat to a point where nothing goes in your body for days on end you will lose, but that's quite unhealthy.

I try to get some kind of protein in me every couple of hours during the day,it may be a cliff bar or a 20-30 gram protein bar, whichever I have at the time. My kids love the blueberry cliff bars so that is normally what I have.

I can't point to anything specifically to state my case right now, but numerous articles I've seen from various dieticians and nutritionists seem to substantiate this. And it does go back to our ancestors time.....they tended to eat frequently as they came by food. If it went a while without eating, metabolism would prevent the body from burning stored fat in the event that the next meal was farther away.

I don't know about every couple of hours. I only eat more than once on weekends. This will be a huge change for me but I will try it. If the weight starts coming back, I will have to revert back to what I do now. :)I refuse to gain all that back. I fought too hard to get rid of it and still have about 15 pounds to lose.

Didnt read everyone of them but those were some good recomindationts. I sit and listen and take in knowledge about deer hunting on here but this subject has been my life for a long time. For a long time I competed bodybuilding (excuse me if I dont post speedo pics) until right up to my last show I had a injury. Since if have become a father and devote all my time to my family. I still weekly make our diets and workouts for bodybuilders within the southeast and local individuals looking to get fit.

To began with I wont even began to type what all you deprive your body of by not eating. A big concern is the lack of nutrition which will inable the body to fight off normal infection or recover from the ones your body picks up. So many different roles could play a factor for your body to not tell you that its "feeding time". That is not a normal.

So I would suggest first going to your local physician and having a full round blood level check and make sure theres no abnormalities. Then to try to kick it into normal gear get yourself a clensing cycle to flush any unwanted matter from inside out. Most are unknowingly but 30% of american male race live their whole lives with tapeworms given by food. And an average male's intestinal wall contains up to 8-10 lbs of trapped unprocessed digestion inside it. The clensing flushes everything out. Drinks lots of water in this process to help rinse it out. If flavor of water becomes unbearable add crystal light.

Once you cleansed your system you need to purchase MEAL REPLACMENT shakes. Not protien. Theres VERY few protien powders that contain all the sufficient suppliments your body needs. Go to bodybuilding.com and go into store then products and find meal replacements. Prices here are 40% cheaper than any GNC and standard shipping will arrive in less than 24hrs. When it comes to suppliments u kinda think of it as taxidermy work. You get what you pay for. Several companys thats makes good products are BSN, Muscle Tech, EAS. Theres equations for gaining muscle for daily protien intake with is 1.5-1.75 of grams X bodyweight and to maintain is 1gram X bodyweight and to stabilize healthy functions its .70 X bodyweight a day. Yes some of the previous guys are right protien is important, but so are many others as long as santas christmas list. Thats why meal replament shakes are better. When I competed I ate 11 meals a day. I wouldnt expect u to do that or am I asking. You do slow down your metabolic rate with multiple food deprivations.

So lets first get bloodwork while we order meal replacments and clensing system. That sounded like a doc sorry. I can take my info as you please but I had read, studied, and lived this for 15yrs but only practiced for myself 13 of those. It may sound like I brag about this but I know my stuff when it comes to diets and fitness. I have never once accepted a dime from any of my clients I ever had only because I like watching or hearing of their appreciated success.
Please anytime you got a question feel free and shoot me a pm. If nothing else please get around to that blood work. Again this isnt normal. And please let me know what the levels say. Im really wanting to know. Im leaving you like this lile I leave everyone else short. If u want to know what protiens when? carbohydrate intakes should slowley gradual up intil bed time. Good luck and please get back to me if u want to move ahead. Its up to me to encourage but it has to be you who's motivated enough to not give up. I leave u this. That isnt safe. Nice talkin to you.

Anybody else that would like any help im here. P.m me if you have anymore informations. Bottom line no bullshit u need a blood test checked pretty soon. I hope I really good help.
If anyone every need to talk fitness shop me up.

The best meal replacement I've used is Prolab (comes in chocolate! and other flavors)...the best protein I have used is Beverly International followed closely by GNC. You can buy both online. For my supplements I used Beverly, GNC and bodybuilding.com.

The best meal replacement I've used is Prolab (comes in chocolate! and other flavors)...the best protein I have used is Beverly International followed closely by GNC. You can buy both online. For my supplements I used Beverly, GNC and bodybuilding.com.

Thanks Coach.

I appreciate all of the info. I have come to the conclusion that
a)I am not doing my muscles a favor if I don't force some type of nourishment
b)it will be a battle but I have battled to lose 40 pounds and won, I can beat this issue
c) I have an awesome 'family' here with a wealth of information and support.

About 3 years ago, I weighed 236lbs, my personal "highest" weight. I starting doing a lot of working out, and managed to get down to about 215 over an extended period of time.

Back at Thanksgiving of 2011, my weight had crept back up to 220, so I tried the Advocare 24 Day Challenge. Over the next 24 days I dropped 12lbs, but more importantly - I challenged some of the things I had thought about myself and assumed... and set my mind to do better.

So from January to about May of 2012, I worked out 5-7days per week, and quite literally got into the best shape of my life, as well as dropping my weight down to about 205lbs (I'm 6'2" tall, BTW). But despite a well rounded weekly routine of both weight lifting and aerobics, I was unable to push through and start dropping the rest of the belly fat I was struggling with.

I was eating better foods, but I just was not getting the results.

Around may, I was turned on to the http://www.leangains.com website, and realized there really was no sound evidence supprting the "eat smaller meals more often" when compared to a PLANNED fasting/feeding approach. Every study was done when comparing it to people who just *skipped* meals, which is NOT the same.

So I engaged in a fasting/feeding program where I only ate between 11:30am and 6:30pm each day.

Oh, and did I mention I work out from 4:30am-5:30am each morning? I am talking multi-mile treadmill runs, with no food, just addressing amino acid supplements.

I didn't die.

I broke through my weight loss barriers, and was able to drop my weight to 192lbs, all while my bench, squat, and running numbers continued to go up. I told myself I would stop losing weight the second I started seeing it affect my strength (and for me - that is somewhere around 185-190lbs based on what I was seeing).

For me, I found that eating breakfast was really something I only forced myself to do because I was "supposed to". For me, I found that whether I ate breakfast or not - I was still just as hungry come lunch time. That means eating breakfast just meant eating MORE FOOD, with no positive results in weight or strength.

My point is - don't assume the true-isms you have been told your entire life are correct. Get to know your body, do your own research, and apply it accordingly. Good luck \:\)
