Here's the last one I pulled through the ice last year. Just a small snake, but still fun.

And here's what we do between "flags"

Haha...great pic Redfred...we've been known to take a little mint snake oil for our morning coffee on the ice

Brings back some good memories. I went to college at Michigan Tech back in the late 70's, in Houghton in Michigan's UP. I loved ice fishing, but being a poor college student there were no shanties or fancy augers for cutting holes in the ice. I borrowed a spud to chop holes, which was quite a chore in late February when the ice was 2 feet or better thick, with several feet of snow on top of that. When I got cold I'd go chop another hole to warm up and move my tip-ups around. I caught quite a few "ax handles" (pike) on smelt that I had caught and stored in the freezer from the spring before, but I mostly jigged for yellow perch. I don't know if I could handle the cold like that any more in my advanced age!

I have been gone from Wisconsin since 1986. We make it back up there every now and then. But the thing I miss the most is the snow. Most of the greatest memories I have are from the winter.
