Ok I know it might not be the best time to be looking at reloading but... I have been thinking about getting into this for a few years now and seeing the basspro add last night got me thinking. So how should I start this adventure? The bps add was a hornady lock n load kit. I believe it was a single stage press. From what I'm reading should I look for a progressive press. I am wanting to reload pistol and rifle ammo. Are the dies interchangeable with any press. What's a good brand to start that I won't have to rebuy once I get more experience? I would like a kit but will buy the peices individually if I have some guidance. ANY help from you experienced loaders would be much appreciated. I have been paying 45 dollars a box of 270 surely I can reload for cheaper. Once I get past the first purchases. Thanks in advance.

I personally like rcbs equipment, but lee, or hornady will do you fine. Start with a single stage and go from there, but i doubt you will ever really need a progressive

Ok so you think a single stage is fine. Would I be wise to buy a kit or purchase seperate. Most of the dies I see in the classifieds are rcbs or lee. So if the are not interchangable I suppose I would be smarter to buy rcbs any way.

I have been reloading on a sigle-stage press since 1984. Started out with a Rockchucker but I now have a Forster Co-Ax press. I've loaded thousands of rounds and unless you do some high volume reloading a single stage should be fine.
All modern brands of dies will interchange with any press.

A kit is a good idea if you are starting from scratch. You can pick up other pieces that you will need as you progress. Do a lot of reading and there are some excellent videos on youtube.

A Speers manual is an excellent investment as well imo.
