I posted in another forum why I need to plant in spring ( http://www.tndeer.com/tndeertalk/ubbthre...rue#Post3119960 )

But basically the deer left my 66 acre farm I hunt. I want to plant something in the spring to bring them back. I have 3 plots and the farm is in Dickson county. I am thing clover for all three.

1. What are your thoughts in clover?
2. Getting a soil sample this week. Is that too early?
3. Read that lime takes 6 months to work. If I need lime am I out of luck for spring planting?
4. Clover in all 3 or would you mix it up?

Lastly I wanted to think TnDeer members. You guys have always helped I the past.

1. You can overseed some clover this winter, or better yet, I might just work it down in the spring and let the native seedbank plants come up for the summer. Or if you would rather plant something, sow some buckwheat, and that will hold you till your fall planting of clover.

2. Never to early or to late for soil sample. If you send a ziploc bag of soil and the form off biologic's website to the lab in Memphis, you will have the results in 3 to 5 days in your email box.

3. Anytime is a good time to lime.

4. The plots probably not big enought to sustain any crops like beans or corn, so I'd say clover. You could do arrowleaf clover and buckwheat in the spring, and then turn it over in the fall and sow wheat, oats and winter peas and sow your clover mix on top to start your perennial clover plots.

Depends on what clover you use. There are warm season clovers, cool season, some that are perenial and annuals.
