So I picked up what I think is a 96 carbine today that has been modified a little. I don't really care that it is not original it will be used in the woods. It has been D&T, bolt is jeweled, some checkering of the stock was done, a bold trigger with safety was installed, and a really bad recoil pad was put on. All the numbers on the parts match, except the stock. I have always wanted one of these so I probably paid too much for one that is so far from original, but who cares. I have never fired this caliber (6.5X55), does anyone reload for these?
I took some bad phone photos, I will try to take some better ones outside when I can get to the range.

Ive got an M96. They are considered the best built of all the Mausers. 6.5x55 is an awesome round. I reload for mine but dont have the load here handy, mine are target loads so probably not what you would want anyway. Not sure about you stock. Looks like somebody got a checkering kit for Christmas and decided to learn on it. If it were mine I would be looking on Ebay for a nice vintage sporting stock.

Well after a little digging on the 'net it appears what I got was m96 that someone tried to make look like a M94 carbine. As long as it shoots I'm happy, we'll see in a few days.

I know that the checkering isn't original, but you will probably like it on a hunting rifle
