Taurus PT709 if they can stand the recoil and handle the slide, as the trigger is much lighter than the Ruger LC9. The Walther PK380 (Model ?) was designed with women in mind, as it has the lightest slide rack force weight on the market and has removable backstraps for changes in ergonomics. Other than that, a Ruger SP101 in 327 Federal ought to be the cats meow and has no issue with women squeamish of an auto loader. YMMV

years ago , i bought my wife a taurus mod 85. It's a 5shot .357
she is actually pretty good with it but i load .38's for her to shoot.

Has she ever fired a semi-auto handgun or any gun for that mater??
If she has then I would recomand a Ruger LCP if not then I would recomand a Ruger LCR in 38 sp.
Too bad you are so far away, I have a brand new one for sale with the CT laser and Crossbreed holster.

She has shot a ruger sr9 and several revolvers. I have hunted with long guns since i was old enough to walk, but i have not shot pistols very much and i just don't know much about pistols. The gun shop recommended the sig and I was looking for ideas if this is a good gun or if something might be better. Looks like it is like long guns, everyone has an opinion. So we probably need to look at several, find the one that feels the best and go to the range.

Yup! And find the ammo that that gun likes. That goes for both cycling and accuracy

My wife started shooting a Walther P22 - when she wanted to take the carry class and start carrying she got a Walther PK380. Same fit, feel & function just with a little more recoil.

S&W 642 Airweight with standard 38 Special Buffalo Bore 158gr SWCHP ammo. Swap the springs out with Apex spring kit for reduced trigger pull.

A DA 38 revolver is perfect.. they dont have to worry about slides,jams,safteys, or any of the other malfunctions related to a semi auto.. in a have to case.. all they have to do is point and pull the trigger...

Just bought this one for the girlfriend. It's a really good shooting little gun and I'm gonna get one myself. Only 50 rounds of cheap steel Russian ammo and it shot good but jammed 2-3 times (could of been from not having a firm grip) all in all I love this little gun.

Ruger has just introduced their LCR revolver in a 6 shot 22 mag. I wish it were a 9 shot, but 6 22 mags would do the trick, with low recoil. It would alo double as a good gun to carry when I'm wade fishing, snake shot loads for mr no shoulders, and Gold Dots for bigger meaner stuff.

If the woman isn't that familiar with semi autos then a wheel gun is the way to go. If she is pretty familiar then any of the sub compacts would work, in my mind anyways. My mother carries a Ruger SP 101. She said if a semi auto jammed she wouldn't know how to fix it in a tense situation.

I know a lady who carries a .45...and I know women who are squeamish about shooting a .22. Best thing to do is go to some ranges (each range may have something different to try) and try some out. She'll "know" which gun she likes.

Ii am always leary of a woman and a semi-auto. First problem is the hand strength required to operate the slide.
The second problem is that a semi-auto isn't as intuitive as a double-action revolver. A DA revolver is easy, pick it up and start pulling the trigger - everybody knows that. A semi-auto has all these buttons and levers. A woman that isn't trained with it a lot may very well push the magazine release thinking it's the safety.
Now if you take a woman and let her shoot a semi-auto enough to REALLY be familiar with it and I mean enough that she has confidence that she can deal with stoppages under extreme stress then a semi-auto may be ok with her.
Still, I'd stick with a DA revolver. I got my wife a Ruger SP101 and have it loaded with +P handloads and a 110gr Sierra Hpt.
One big advantage women have over us for concealed carry is that they have a purse to hide things in. They can carry a gun that's a bit larger and never worry that it will show.
Oh yeah, as far as a woman being able to handle recoil, my 78yr old Mother has a Colt SAA in 45 Colt that she handles just fine. You never know unless you let them try it.

I have a sig 232 in 380 and love it. Very accurate and recoil is light.

i wouldn't recommend carrying in a purse. that's the first thing a thief will go for then he has your gun.

I have the P238 and my wife and I both enjoy shooting it. We looked at the LCP and shot one and she really didn't like it as it was fairly "snappy" and the sights very small. The trigger pull is very long and takes some getting used to. The slide can be a little stiff as well. After 20 to 30 rounds I could feel a spot starting to form on my finger from the trigger guard. It is also a little easier to conceal as it is smaller.
The sig has great sights and the slide is very easy to rack. For a small pistol it is also very accurate. It is also heavier and recoil is not an issue. I am considering the P938 for myself and keeping the P238 for my wife.
Alot of people love the LCP, in my personal opinion there is a reason the Sig is 150-200 bucks more.
