DHelton, just because you don't see any big bucks does not mean they are not there. Top sowing DER and wheat just before a rain will ensure a high germination rate also, this is only for early winter/mid winter nutrition/ hunting plots though, won't be doing anything much for antler growth.

.280, if you want to make a difference on antler growth, I suggest three things,

1. locate honey suckle, ragweed, beauty berry, and other preferred browse and fertilize, a soil test around these areas and soil appendages won't hurt either.
2. hammer does, does eat the food bucks need to grow antlers also, the more does, the less nutrition, get your buck to doe ratio down and you will also contribute to antler growth and overall herd health.
3. Trigger management, let'em go so they can grow... nuff said.

Also maintain sanctuaries that you or noone else steps foot in for any reason whatsoever. Allow the plenty of unintruded cover and hunt the edges and you will see an increase of mature deer sightings.

I dont know how the lay out is but they need thick areas to bed and feel secure, they also need different stages of growth to supply different foods. I would try bushhogging small two to three acre plots for two hundred acres maybe five or six and bushhog the rest in rotating years and let some come up in timber. As far as what to plant I like the combo of clover and rye grass but you have to keep it mowed, that will do well untill you get some hard frost, for that I top sow wheat and tunips in August. Also you might try some trophy rocks. The deer will use them all year long to get much needed minerals. Hope this helps.

I would not suggest ryegrass at all, you will regret it as it will spread and be just as if not more invasive as fescue, not to mention it does not provide much as any form of nutrition.
