Turkeys are the reason I started hunting. Deer came second. But after this past deer season, it was so good and I haven't quite cooled down from it yet. I almost like deer hunting better now. Wait another month or two, and I will be going crazy about the gobblers again. I think I am a turkey hunter at heart but things can change, I've only been hunting about 2 years or so. At the moment I'm kind of tied...urkeys are more fun and exciting to hunt but deer are smarter and I have gotten hooked on bow hunting. Can't decide right now...

Deer has always been #1 with turkey coming in second to me. But turkey is growing on me every year. That being said, killing a doe is still more exciting to me than kiling the biggest tom.

Turkey hunting is too easy. They walk right up to you. Not a challenge at all in my neck of the woods. Deer hunting is #1 for me, then squirrel #2, and 3# is coyote hunting. However, I do love eating wild turkey.

I love both killing a mature deer that you've been after there is absolutely nothing that gets me tore up like that.. but the hunt it self It goes to turkey hunting but really they are pretty close but if I had to choose one itd be deer. baseball used to take most of my time in the spring so this year will be the first year ti actually have a lot of time chasing long beards.

Love em both. Nothing like a cold cloudy morning anticipating a big buck walk by you in the winter. And nothing like a the sound of daybreak in the spring when three or four gobblers start sounding off.

deer hunting for me. ive tried the turkey hunting and go a few times a year but just cant get into that much. ive tried duck hunting and like it better than turkey but still nothing compares to deer hunting for me. For me, theres nothing like sitting in the deer stand and just thinking about life and looking at the trees turning leaves and different critters running around.

I have hunted bushy tails, and rabbits as I was growing up, in 1975 I started hunting whitetails.Killed my first buck at 16, and I was hooked for life. Turkeys didn't come into play until the late 90s, very elusive animals to hunt. I killed my first bearded bird, and it was a bearded hen with a 7.1/2" beard.Killed a few gobblers off and on, and then about 3 yrs ago we started getting them on the farm.Which makes it easier to hunt them for me, I don't have to drive along way to hunt them.Been pretty successfull last 3 yrs I guess 2 one year the limit of 4 the next and 2 last year.
With that all said, altho it is one of natures ultimate sites to see a full blown goobbler strutting and gobbling coming in to my call and the decoys.I make the shot, you go to the bird and yes there is a sense of acoplishment and enjoyment of that hunt.
BUT There is no and I mean no feeling that comes close in my book as a big mature whitetail in rut time showing up steam blowing out of his nostrils from chasing a doe in heat, he gets into range and you pull the trigger, he drops, you make your way to him and then the adrenilin rush hits you, you admire him and what he stands for,and old warrior, and you yourself figured him out, I tell ya folks a blame turkey just don't come close to deer hunting, sorry thats top of the list for me HORNS all the way!!

Been deer hunting a lot longer than turkey hunting but would give up half of deer season for one more week of turkeys. I love chasing those feathered rats.

Turkey hunting by far. Nothing like the feeling when you hit that owl call and several longbeards sound off and you know it's game on! Or when you see that head come into view and he blows up into strut. Sitting in a tree waiting on a deer to walk by can't compare.

I've only started turkey hunting last year, but permits were tough to come by in Wisconsin. But so far I'd have to say turkey hunting is just a way to get in the woods and look for deer sign and trails for deer season.
Deer hunting hands hands down.

Deer...but after a few months of winter I sure look forward to putting on the camo and getting out in the woods. Once in awhile a turkey comes by and messes up my quiet time

If I had to choose, it would be deer, but i'm glad we don't have to pick one over the other. I deer hunt in the fall, and turkey hunt in the spring. However, my wife perfers I take her Crappie fishing instead me chasing Gobblers!!! Maybe you should ask the question 'Turkey Hunting vs. Crappie Fishing'???

I would rather kill an average two year old gobbler that gives me an exciting hunt that a 200 inch buck with a bow.
Because I know that will never happen. haha

Although I love hunting both, if I had to choose only one it'd be deer hunting. I love the changing of the seasons, the cooler temps, and matching wits with older bucks. There's just something about that grunting sound that entices me more than that gobbling sound. That being said I haven't really turkey hunted much since I lost my turkey hunting spot 8 years ago. If I still had a decent turkey hunting area to hunt regularly my answer might just have been a split decision. I do like playing chess with those birds.

A double thumbs up, well said Viper.

Deer hunting for me as I am just really getting into Turkey Hunting. But to be honest If I had a place to go to turkey hunt on a regular basis I would get a lot more excited about Turkey season. Not a lot of good non draw public land in West TN

Even though I love deer hunting, it's turkeys for me... just looking at Good Time Charlie's photo almost made me break into full strut.
