22lr is currency. When the dollar fails, 22LR is the suzan b anthoney You are right If things go real bad dolar bills will be worthless, you can't eat gold. ammo will be the currency. A box of 22 mite get you a steak one way or another.

Except during deer and turkey season, I have a .22lr rifle attached to my hand pretty much everyday. Small game hunting when its in season and target shooting when all the seasons are closed. Its just hard to beat for an inexpensive fun round to shoot.

cheap, most versatile, cheap, can store/carry a bunch, cheap, fun to shoot, cheap, quiet, cheap, most popular.
oh and did I mention, cheap.

Kinda thinking the gunbroker auction I got in on with a lowball bid for 5K rounds and won it, when I didn't really want it, turns out to be maybe a good piece of luck.

yep. cheap accurate and versatile. in an emergency, deer will be wiped out fast. people will survive on squirrels birds and rabbits

Versatility. I would be willing to bet between 1900 and maybe 1970 before hunting regulations really exploded there were more deer killed with a .22lr than any other round.

22lr is a versatile round. With good shot placement, it will kill a deer quickly. Good small game round. Cheap cost. Those are selling points in today's market.
