I think I know the answer but I saw on another post
" all the preppers buy 22lr first"
Anyway I think that is how it was put, so why do they buy that round?

probably because it is cheap, light and you can carry a ton of it with you. you can kill a deer with a .22 if you have to, but it will also not blow up a rabbit or a squirrel, so you can shoot them too.

my guess would be cheap ammo and if i needed one gun to survive it would be a 22. you can hunt anything with it.

This rifle is a specialized rifle for a specialized mission that not all tactical teams require. But, the availability of such a tool may open the eyes of those teams that have not thought about the possibilities. For its intended mission, the rifle is fantastic, and not many people realize the level of expertise that Tactical Operations has in building suppressors. I have fired their .308, 22, 9mm and 223 suppressors of various varieties, and they have all been excellent. They even have suppressors for .50 BMG and 12g shotguns. If your team has need for a means to take out lights and guard dogs undetected, you should take a very serious look at the Green Hornet.

He's right, those are the very reason most people will reach for them first. 2nd, 3rd and 4th behind the 22 lr are 223/5.56, 9mm and 45 auto.

You are right If things go real bad dolar bills will be worthless, you can't eat gold. ammo will be the currency. A box of 22 mite get you a steak one way or another.

Except during deer and turkey season, I have a .22lr rifle attached to my hand pretty much everyday. Small game hunting when its in season and target shooting when all the seasons are closed.
Its just hard to beat for an inexpensive fun round to shoot.

Kinda thinking the gunbroker auction I got in on with a lowball bid for 5K rounds and won it, when I didn't really want it, turns out to be maybe a good piece of luck.

Versatility. I would be willing to bet between 1900 and maybe 1970 before hunting regulations really exploded there were more deer killed with a .22lr than any other round.

22lr is a versatile round. With good shot placement, it will kill a deer quickly. Good small game round. Cheap cost. Those are selling points in today's market.
