Yeah...Benton Shooters Supply in Benton, TN had some the other day. Lots of .22 LR in all brands. But it was all jacked up to $50 a box. Keep checking around the stores; they get new shipments in every week or so, and depending on what store...could get shipments in every day.

One of my buddies at work went in a store over the weekend just to look around and he said they had all kind of ammo...had it in .223, .308, 9mm, .45, .22 LR, etc....said the prices were normal too.

I actually bought a couple boxes at our walmart the other day.
At that time they had quite a few.
Decided to pick a couple more up 2 days later and they were gone.

Those CCI Stingers are a lighter bullet with a hotter charge. They shoot two inches high in my rifles. I'm sure you'll be able to find them by March so don't fret.

I was at the Outpost in Christiana (just past Murfreesboro off I 24) today and they had lots of em on the shelf!

I bought 3 boxes of .223 WSSM-----VERY hard to find that ammo------and some night sights for my XD. The guy in front of me at the check out spent $ 7,682 on Ammo, a rifle and a Kimber .45. Wish I was in a position to just walk in a store and drop that kinda dough!! \:o

Think about all the Ruger 10/22 's out there that have been converted to look like assault rifles . A lot of high capacity 10/22 mags that people just like to have fun with. Also a lot of M-16 22 conversion kits . 22's are Cheaper to play with.Supply and demand the frenzy is driving up the demand and the cost.

Oh ok, I totally understand you there. The round is very impotent in a real-life tactical situation IMO.

This rifle is a specialized rifle for a specialized mission that not all tactical teams require. But, the availability of such a tool may open the eyes of those teams that have not thought about the possibilities. For its intended mission, the rifle is fantastic, and not many people realize the level of expertise that Tactical Operations has in building suppressors. I have fired their .308, 22, 9mm and 223 suppressors of various varieties, and they have all been excellent. They even have suppressors for .50 BMG and 12g shotguns. If your team has need for a means to take out lights and guard dogs undetected, you should take a very serious look at the Green Hornet.

This answer above comes from spec ops and yes this weapon has its place to due damage far beyond what most are capable of inflicting. Most people can not get in close range undetected but in the right hands of a operator you better watch out.

Go over to the gun forum and look at what Mr. Big does with his 22lr's. THAT's real shooting.

I would 100x rather get shot in the vitals with a 223 fmj at 3000 fps, than a hollow point or soft point 22 large at 1,500 fps. Think about that and tell me which is going to inflict more killing damage

I did not realize spec ops had a website from which people could cut and paste.

Also, I wonder how many operators we have here amongst us on Tndeer looking for .22 LR ammo.

I agree .22 LR has its place in a post SHTF-rural subsistence survival scenario, but to those here who are eagerly looking forward to a full blown insurgency/civil war, the utility of the round is woefully limited.

I don't have to think about it, I've seen both on more than one occasion, and the .223 is far deadlier. Either will kill you under the right circumstances, though.

Ok get shot in the head brains, heart its 6:1 half dozen to thr other. But here is no way that a bullet that is going to pinhole through without expansion is going to do the damage a a ballistic or mushrooming round will do. I can see a 223 with a SP bullet or Ballistic tip or such, but those fmjs are made to Pierce not kill quick.

I'm glad the East side of the state has them. That is the shell I use to squirrel hunt with, very hot and accurate shell. If anyone from the east side is coming to the Vous and doesn't mind bringing me some, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

The purpose of the 223 round wasn't to kill and blow big gaping holes in its target. They developed it to take targets out of a fight...I.e. to wound people so that their buddies have to disengage a fire fight to carry their wounded off. By hitting one target, they take out 3. The problem is and always has been...that it takes 2+ rounds in the body to bring a target down, vs the enemy with SKS or AK that with one hit, you're down. In Vietnam, the Viet Cong and NVA would drag off their dead and wounded as to demoralize the US troops fighting them. It works on your mental state of mind when you get in a fire fight and see several of your buddies drop....but you can't find any enemy bodies or wounded after the fights over....just blood trails here or there. I've never been in combat but I have read craploads of stories and books of folks who have. Even more recently in the War on Terror the troops talking about how weak the 223 cartridge was...and they were opting for the 308 or other rounds. Darn that Geneva convention :-) I say turn em loose with some JHPs. But as for 22s vs the 223s....if I've learned one thing at all by being around people that have them....they rely too much on throwing lots of wasted bullets down range vs actually hitting their target with one shot. Heaven forbid it ever happen, but I would feel more confident and in control of the situation with my 22 LR bolt action vs anybody I personally know with a 223 AR style gun and all the clips full of ammo they could carry.

^^^^

This makes sense to me especially the last part. Given any circumstance I would rather have a 22lr than an A/R.

Before everyone jumps on our posts READ the context, it is that being non military we have little experience with an A/R platform but have a comfort level with 22lr ( in my case been shooting this caliber for almost 35 yrs).

Comfort level is probably the most important thing. I am a shotgun man. If I have the option and I'm within 50 yards of my target...I know what I want in my hand.
