I bought this pistol - a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 44 magnum - at the end of November. After a few screw-ups getting it set up, but I'm on the right track now. That's an Ultradot 30 mm red dot sight on the top mounted with the Ruger rings that come with the pistol (although 1" rings are standard - I had to swap the standard ones out by mail to get the larger size.

I've probably put about 75 rounds through it so far...pretty expensive to shoot! I think I might have to start reloading.

Didn't get a chance to get a deer within range of it by the time I got it set up, so that's top of the list for next season.

.44 Mag is pretty easy to reload for. Use 2400 powder, or try the new magnum pistol powder from Alliant that is supposed to give around 200-300 more fps over conventional powders. Cast boolits, of the proper alloy and properly sized and lubed, give great performance at a much lower cost than jacketed.

Just got an email from Field & Stream about the top hunting handguns. Mine made the list. Also, I didn't post it earlier, but the SBH Hunter comes in a 7.5" barrel.
