Ok so up til the other day i thought all wma's were rimfire only after big game seasons but it seems from what i read on another thread thats not all true.

If a management area is listed as "same as statewide", does this mean i can use centerfire for predator and varmint hunts?

This is from the WMA regulations section on TWRA's site (http://www.tn.gov/twra/wmas.html):

Small game hunting with center-fire weapons
Rifles and handguns using center-fire ammunition are prohibited from hunting all small game species on Wildlife Management Areas with only a few exceptions: Rifles and handguns using center-fire ammunition are legal for hunting beaver, bobcat, foxes, coyotes, feral hogs, groundhogs, and crows, only during deer season and the hunter must be a licensed legal deer hunter. Coyotes and bobcats may be taken by big game hunters while hunting big game with any legal big game weapon or ammunition.

I've been in a staff meeting all day today and haven't had a chance to fully research this. At first glance, I think this is a holdover from 2011 and was changed this year.

I'll get back with you all on this subject.

I've done some checking today, and it looks like the info from our website on small game hunting with centerfire weapons is incorrect. We will get it changed.

The intent of the same as statewide seasons except as noted means that the WMA regulations are the same as private land in that county unless otherwise noted for that WMA. You need to check the WMA regulation to see if there are any exceptions. If you have any questions, the contact number for the WMA contact person is listed in the Hunting guide under the WMA.

So the ability to hunt with centerfire will come when?

The season on WMAS with statewide regulations with no exceptions would be open tomorrow through Friday. It is closed Saturday and Sunday for the juvenile deer hunt. It reopens Monday and is open until the 2013-14 deer season opens.

This ^ seemed like the standard TWRA answer and it makes sense...no issue here

THIS ^ confuses me

We started out with a few exceptions, then we have to call the specific WMA to check and see if they have any exceptions...and based on last response there are NO exceptions..... sorry....now i am as lost as last years easter egg. This is why i have asked "What will it take to get a ruling for predators on WMA's CONSISTANT across the board?" Not trying to pick a fight, just want clear, concise answers with no ambiguity.

There is no 100% answer for every WMA. I doubt seriously that there ever will be due to differences between them. It requres a little effort on the hunter's part to check out the regulations for the WMA they wish to hunt. In exchange for that effort and a fairly nominal fee, they have access to hundreds of thousands of acres to hunt across TN.

It is sort of hard for me to understand the problem with that.

I'm done with this question.
