We're carrying several young hunters this weekend and are a bit confused about license requirements. Two of the kids do not have their hunter safety certificate. I understand they can get an apprentice license but my question is, do they need a junior hunting license (type 002) in addition to the apprentice license? Also, we are hunting on private land in unit L. Do they also need a type 94 permit to shoot does?

They do not need a type 94 permit for this hunt.
If they are 13 or over in age they will be required to have the Type (002) license if residents, or the type 085 or 086 if nonresidents.
If they are 10 years of age or older they are required to be hunter sfety certified. The Apprentice license exempts them from the HS requirements for one year from date of purchase.
All youths are required to have an adult 21 years of age or older who meets the fluorescent orange requirements and who can take immediate control of the hunting weapon from each youth.

Under the age of 10 they would not have a license requirement.
His/her deer will need to be checked out at a checking station so they can create him/her a TWRA profile. You will need their social security number to do the profile.

How do you temporary tag the deer if the youth is under 10 ?

You don't temporary tag their first deer of the season if they are under 10. You will need their SSN to have the checking station create a TWRA profile & TWRA number when they check it out. They will be given a temporary tag for thgeir next deer when they check the first one out.
It will be a moot point after today since today is the last time that system will be used. We will have a totally new system starting with the spring turkey hunts.
