I usually cover with water just so I can add some vegg-all and make soup for the next day.
Instead of water, do maybe half & half beef broth for some extra flavor. If you want it more gravy-like in consistency, pat dry the roast, roll it in flour and dust off, then brown it. You may want to also stir in a tablespoon of flour to the cooking liquid before you pour it in.

[quote=Coach] - When placing meat in the pan and turning the meat, do not disturb the meat for the allotted time 3-4 minutes. Leave it alone and let it brown. - Also for crock pot, recipes use a liquid (broth, beer, wine) to deglaze the pan used for browning. Pour liquid into hot skillet, use spoon or spatula to scrape up brown bits, and pour liquid with brown bits into crock pot.
^^^THIS^^^ is important for flavor.
To test the meat, jiggle it just a bit. When the browning is "just right", the meat will release itself from the pan. Medium high heat is all that's needed.

Dang, I didn't do so much of this that is posted but I will next time for sure. I'm trying this out with beef, I've got some venison roasts out in the freezer for next time.

I freeze my leftover soup and use it on the next one. After that, I start over and freeze what's left. I have tried every broth under the sun and I still go back to the Golden Mushroom soup. If you have steaks you don't want to grill, throw a pack in and cook like a roast.

I don't brown the meat, defeats the purpose of using a CP if you have alot of prep time....
