Both my brother in law and I shot bobcats on Saturday evening, skinned them out, salted with non idiodized salt inside out, resalted Monday night and now their hanging. I know I have to get any flesh and membrane of the skin side how will I tan the hide after this? Looked at a bunch of web how to's but want a personal experience with tanning, any help would be apreciated.

Twra has a great guide on how to tan hides. I'd go look at it on their website and follow it word by word

If you did not remove the bigger chunks of flesh and meat before salting, you didnt do your self any good. Salt is only designed to slow down bacteria and draw blood from the hide. the area of skin under your meat chunks, if it didnt get any salt bacteria could and probaly has gotten to that area of th skin. Hides have an outer layer of skin called the epidermis its very thin and its were the hair and fur roots lay. It doesnt take long for bacteria to reach these areas.

My advice is to clean off all the meat/fat that you can. the re salt the hide, this should almost completley dry the skin out. Then google a taxidermy supply company up and get a taning kit. they come with instructions, taning oil and you pickle acid. But I would reccomend ordering other tanning agents that are desgined to degrease the hide during pickle and de orderize the hide during the neutrilization bath. you need some fine salt and bakin soda which you can get any were. If you have any questions PM me and I will help all I can.

I order most of my stuff from Mckenzie taxidermy supply. they are in granite quarry , North Carolina, they are pretty much the walmart of suppliers so anything you would need you can get from them. as for My tanning supplies I get them from Pro 1 performance chemicals. very good stuff but you usually have to order by the gallon. for a bobcat you would only need about 1.5 oz of acid to get the job done so.... you can get smaller quanites from mckenzie. http://www.pro1performancechemicals.com
