Yet another excellent suggestion.
When I was a bachelor, the crock pot was my mainstay.

Well, I'm a bachelor now after 25 years of not being allowed in the kitchen so I'm still learning some of the finer techniques! I actually enjoy doing it

Campbell's golden mushroom soup is the absolute best. A can of diced tomatoes and other veggies of choice. Season to taste, I like Italian, cover with water and crank it up. You can't overcook it unless you cook the liquid out.

Instead of water you can always throw in a can of beer. The alcohol cooks off BTW.

Trust me! No water or soup. Roast, taters, carrots, mushrooms, i package of dry ranch seasoning. Cook on low 6 to 7 hours. Enjoy.

If I brown it first do I take the twine off? I've done this in the oven and I didn't take it off
You don't take the twine off. Twine, meat and all into a smoking hot skillet with a little oil. Brown 3-4 minutes per side until all sides are browned.
If you're learning after 25 years of not being allowed in the kitchen, I would suggest you check out http://www.cookscountry.com/ . You can get a 14 day free trial and then $19.95 a year after that. This is how I started learning, when I got serious about my cooking.

I will definitely check out that site. Thanks....I browned it (forgot the oil), put it in some beef broth, added carrots, taters, onions, can of diced maters, turned it on high.. I needed to make a decision if I was going to eat tonight so I went with not adding soup but using some water and broth in the hopes of making my own soup tomorrow.
Anything else I should do?

I had a packet of Onion Soup with my water and a can of cream of mushroom. Just throw it in there with taters and carrotts and I always add whatever seasonings sound good at the time.
