I know we have a cooking forum but I kinda need an answer pretty quick. I want to do a roast in the crockpot with taters, carrots and such. Do I need to do anything special when putting raw meat in a crock? How do you guys do it? Thanks..Coach

You can just throw it in if you want. I prefer to brown each side with some olive oil and salt/pepper then dump drippings and all in.

Brown each side like in the oven on broil? Do I need to completely cover the roast with water?

I just brown it in a hot skillet then dump into pot. Should only take 4-5 minutes. I do add water- just enough to cover the meat and veggies.

Season to taste and don't open until you're ready to eat.

I wouldn't put water in with it, I'd use a couple cans of diced maters and if thats still too chunky or dry a can of mater sauce.

you can also add cream of mushroom soup for your liquid, but you do need to brown it first.

Cream of mushroom is another excellent suggestion

I usually cover with water just so I can add some vegg-all and make soup for the next day.

Browning helps bring our flavors of the meat, but it is not necessary. I do suggest it, however. I would use beef stock for your liquid.

If I brown it first do I take the twine off? I've done this in the oven and I didn't take it off
