I'm sure this won't be the quick and dirty answer I was hoping for, but with the increasing number of COMPLETELY unmarked LEO vehicles out there (no antennae, "private" tags, non-standard car makes), how appropriate would it be to call 911 to request a uniformed officer in a marked squad car join in the party? Assuming it's a legit cop in the car, how long would it take dispatch to figure out what was going on before the guy got really whizzed off for me not immediately pulling over?

I saw one of those cars today pull over someone on the interstate, and was just wondering. There's been a few stories out of Arkansas lately about some guy with a lightbar pulling folks over to rob them. And no, I'm not getting all paranoid, but I've always just been curious.

Thanks Focker, but there aren't many of those along the north loop....where I'd likely get lit up.

If you're unsure... always call 911 and continue to drive. It would be a good idea to slow and put on your hazards. If they are following you and trying to stop you, dispatch is going to know considering it is the correct dispatch you're talking to.

Rather get the ticket later than a bullet from a fake. Of course if you don't stop right away, most fake cops would probably quit trying to get you to stop... especially if they see you on the phone.

Call 911 if you are uncomfortable getting pulled over. They can tell you if its a legit officer.

There were two rapes 15 miles from where I work a few years ago. It was two guys in an 'unnarked' car. I would have to have confirmation before pulling over.

Yes, call 911 and tell them whats happening. They can tell you AND the officer whats going on. An officer in an unmarked will be understanding about this.

Had a friend being tailgated on I-40 between memphis and jackson last year by just a regular car with nothing showing it was a cop. He was going 8 mph over the limit. Guy was right on his bumper so my buddy very slowly started slowing down and tapped his brake to disengage his cruise control. Then the car on his tail lit up with blue lights. My friend pulled over and a guy comes to his window with a badge around his neck, long hair and blue jeans and a t-shirt on with a marijuana leaf on it. Undercover narcotics cop starts in on my friend about tapping his brakes at such a high rate of speed and how dangerous that was blah, blah, blah... Cop did not give my friend a ticket, but chewed him out.
My friend called me to find out cops name and supervisor, but i told him to let it go. All it would do is cause trouble for everyone involved and wouldnt change anything. I also suggested to my buddy that he drive the speed limit and he wouldnt have those interactions with the police.

And thats the real key to the problem anyway....

There is nothing wrong with being sure, an officer that has any common sense will understand, now I had a case one time where I was pulled a person over, our patrol vehicles are very clearly marked, light bar flashing, full uniform and the guy still called the sheriff and even after they told him that I was who I said I was he still wanted a deputy, that just tends to really irritate an officer, of course I doubt that to anybody except a park ranger
