Praise God. I stayed away from the show because I thought "another stupid reality show". I was wrong, I've only seem half a dozen shows so far but I'm impressed with their love of God.

never had any desire to watch it, but once I did, well im hooked. I watch all the time. sat down the other day and watched I dont know how many episodes. try and drag my daughter into watch anytime I can force her too. I have an ongoing struggle with the fact that my daughter does not believe in God. Its a long story as to how she has come about to her beliefs. Mostly ignorance from her "Donors" idiotic beliefs. we pray constantly for some way to bring her to her senses without pushing her further away from the truth.

My pastor let me borrow their book to read. His wife had gotten it for him at Christmas and both of us are fans of the show. He said he had it read in a day or so, and I read it in about the same time frame.
At any rate...I was surprised by some of the stuff in the book. Some of it I agreed with...some I didn't, and some I was very surprised to find out. I reckon Phil was a pretty rough dude back in the day BEFORE he got Saved. He ran a bar, got into some trouble with the owners of the bar and about beat one of them to death. He also stayed drunk most of the time, would leave Kay to tend to the kids and finally one day, told her to get out that he didn't want anything to do with her or the kids anymore. It was later on that he got Saved and the Lord let him have his family back. Still though, the kids pretty much raised themselves.
Reading about their struggles early on and how much they had to depend on God to supply their needs...that was something else. Their only busy times were when the duck hunters were buying the calls...which was very very seasonal. So they had a little money for a couple months and were broke the rest of the time doing what they could to survive. They talked about not having enough to pay their bills, having borrowed more money than they could pay back, and then going to the mailbox and finding a check in the mail for X amount of dollars, which was always just enough to pay their bills and put a little food on the table.
