The property I just purchased has an old pond on it. It appears to have been dugout in the last few years and enlarged. It measures approx. 50' wide x 100' long It only holds water in the very bottom. I'm going to assume it held water before it was enlarged.
How can I get the pond to hold water? I am aware of a type of liner but I have heard that they may or may not work. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Search the web for using bentonite for this.

Our local co-op has bentonite. You could check one in your area they shoul have it or can get it. You will have to pump the pond dry spread it around the bottom and sides, till it in and compact it. That should seal it up

Fence it in and let a farmer run his hogs on/in it for a while.... they will help walk it in....
