Killed coyote this morning, but had to go to work. Left him in cold, shady place. He is pretty bloody. Should I clean and dry pelt before skinnging, or go ahead and skin and then give it a cleaning? Looking to eventually have the pelt tanned.

skin before it gets green belly. You want to get the burs and stuff out before fleshing. To get the blood out of the fur, you can wash it, but I prefer to clean with borax. Rub it in and let it sit a while, shake it out. If you do get green belly, rub borax into the leater side.
Here's a few I finished the other day:

Got it skinned (first one, and it was cold. not much fun). Glad the family was out of town as I used the bathtub to wash it out. Incredible amount of blood had soaked into the fur. Oh, and there were a few fleas in there as well! Put the pelt on a wire frame with a fan in front overnight in the garage. Mostly dry on the outside this morning, so bagged and put in freezer. Now to find someone who can tan it for me. (I did a deer hide last year. Came out okay, but without a fleshing machine I'll never get a hide as nice as an expert.)
