I too am intrested in seeing this round in action, however i am more intrested in seeing real world ballistics and the terminal ballistics before i buy in. I have lost more coyotes to .17HMR than i care to count...400 to 600fps more not gonna make that much of a difference.

Midway is high on everything and then they have crazy shipping charges. Yesterday I bought several boxes of CCI 20 grn soft points for the 17 HMR for $8 a box in a local store. They had 17 grn Hornady VMAX for $11 a box and the 15 grn version for $8 a box. I wanted one due to flat shooting and very accurate out to 200 yds...quieter than centerfire calibers and cheap to shoot. Plus its fun to shoot and good carnage on small game....when you need more umph and range than a 22 LR can provide but when a 243 or 22-250 is still overkill.
If this new 17 rimfire has heavier bullet options I think it would do better on medium size varmints like coyotes. Why somebody would think a 17 grain bullet @ 1,500 fps should drop a coyote in its tracks is beyond reasonable thinking if you ask me. These things basically explode on impact. I killed 3 squirrels with mine so far and all 3 were less than 40 yards away...it killed all 3 but didn't exit on any of them. What I got was ghastly entrance wound but no exit...even on squirrel size game, the light weight bullets is exploding as soon as it hits them. Don't know anything about the new 17 magnum but if it offers the flat shooting of the 17 hmr in heavier bullet offerings it would really be something to look at.

The first 2 coyotes i ever called in fell to .17HMR on WMA, was shooting the 20gr HP XPR and i was impressed and truly SOLD on it. That was 7 years ago...it took about 4 or 5 failures for me to relagate my hummer to golf balls, dumdum suckers and spent shot shells. the Hornaday 20gr HP XPR's are advertised at 2375fps/275fpe at muzzle. This new super magnum round on the 20gr is 3000fps/400fpe at muzzle and the 25gr is 2600fps/325fpe. I am not ready to blast it yet til we see some information on real world experience...looks like we will have to wait til after the SHOT Show before we will even see a rifle chambered for this round.

Interesting that its made from a blank/nail gun round. I would have thought it would be a 22mag necked down.
