Last hunt from wooden stand

This morning was my last hunt from the homemade stand I put together in early archery season. It is just as solid as when I built it, but its going to come down soon because I don't want to be tempted to hunt out of it next deer season. I didn't see any deer this morning but I could see in my head the ones I killed from the stand and where the deer were standing when I shot them. Killed my first deer with a bow from this stand. Going to miss hunting out of it but it would be too much risk after sitting out all summer. Probably will get a hang on stand for next season.

Save your money and get you a Millenium M-100 HangOn. Expensive but you will thank me later. Very light at 14lbs. I get the extra receivers and mount them and climbing sticks in the trees I want to hunt then carry my stand in.
By the way I have hunted in several wooden stands in my lifetime, probably not the wisest choice. Killed my first deer out of a wooden ladder stand.

Good advice, just make SURE you put a strap on the bottom of the stand near the platform, as it WILL kick sideways with just the bracket attached to the stand!

Is that an extra comfy stand? I couldn't complain about that. Maybe ill try and buy a used one over the summer.

As a side note, I wouldn't be scared to hunt out of it next year.
For years and years that is all I hunted out of and many were up in the tree for 10+ years.
Just check them before hunting season every year and if you don't nail them to the tree all you got to do is loosen the straps a bit to keep them from getting too much pressure on them and you are good to go.

I have the Millenium and the Summit Viper. I prefer my Millenium, very comfortable and light. For bow hunting its great you can stand up and quietly lift the seat to have the whole platform for manueverability when deer come in. Most comfortable stand I have ever been in.

I finally retired one of our wooden stands. It has been in use for about 15 years. It evolved a little every year to where the tree eventually died around it and it was free standing from all the support legs we had on it. Looking back on it we were idiots for using it, and I will not invest time or money in any more wood stands. They work when maintained, but end up costing more in the long run.
