Remington had to do something. The Savage Axis, T/C Venture, and the new Ruger American all offer high levels of accuracy, detachable magazines, and plastic stocks all in the same price range. I don't like 90 degree bolt throws, the small ejection port, or that funny looking forend on the stock. Savage has to catch up with the trigger but the others are already there.
Be intersting to see one in person.

IMO, Remington is trying to take the features of some other rifles and then combine them into one. I think the slumping economy is forcing Remington to design cheaper and economic rifles, rather than build the tried and true classics that helped get them where they were 5 years ago. IMO, they are afraid to build a great classic because of the price they would have to charge to make a profit.
First impression of the rifle is base line, cheap plastic, economic rifle catering to entry level hunters. Nothing wrong with that. IMO, Remington needs to go back to their roots, retool their plants with state of the art equipment, and start building classics that got them their reputation as a quility rifle. Building cheap rifles with what appears to be less than desirable parts is only going to hurt in the long run when they start breaking 5 to 10 years from now.

Whew! That thing is ugly as a mud fence! A man would have to be DESPERATE for a rifle to lay down cash for that thing.
I finished off the season this year hunting with my Remington model 14. It was made in 1930. I'll gurantee that new rifle Remington is peddling cannot last 83 years! It probably won't last 1/5 of that time under even moderate use.
