Fellas,

I know NOTHING about GPS devices, so naturally the fire department selected me to find some for us. \:D

The only iron clad requirement is that we are able to enter longitude and latitude and it give us directions to those coordinates.

Can any of ya recommend a good quality unit that is fairly easy to use?

Looks like you need a GPS to find your way around the forums.

Are you going to be using it for the woods or for streets? My new Android phone came with a GPS and it totally outperforms my Garmin Rino and Nuvi. Don't get me wrong those are both fine units but the Android GPS is much better. This thing even has a birds eye view feature- just as you'll see en route to the destination

No you are not. US congress needs to know this too since they don't have have a clue about where they are or where they are going.

And, "Mega Dittos", for Obama!

Maybe what Obama needs is a GPS to direct the teleprompter!

I would say it would be close to 100% street use. They are GPS mapping all of Fentress county's fire hydrants, thus the need.

I have 1 Garmin Nuvi and I also have a TOM-Tom. If the FD just has to have a mobile GPS, I would stick with a Tom Tom... The Garmin requires you to pay for updates. The Tom Tom gives you free updates and seems to have more cool features.

I believe it depends on which model you buy. Mine has a built in battery and can be hand-held.

A lot of the Garmin Nuvi models come with free lifetime map updates. Just look for the models with LM in the model number.

Im shocked they dont already have them.

I knew i had to have one myself, when a friend of mine came to our farm in Jackson Co.,Gainsboro, TN. He told me he GPS it, i told him no way,It may be a county road that runs in our hollow and dead ends, but it aint going to be on no GPS.
No one uses this so called road but us, Has Gate across it, weeds knee high in parts of it.We maintain it mostly ourselfs. He drove straight to it. I couldnt beleave it. He showed me the GPS and it showed on there this wagon trail of ours, him sitting just off of it at our house and showed it running all the way up the hollow.
I went home and bought a GPS the next day
