Got my form yesterday to renew but I have a question or two. So I cut them a check, wait 90 days, and then they send me what? Another piece of paper to keep up with? My old photo on a new card? What exactly.
or should I just go down to the local DMV and try there?

They'll send you a new one with your old photo unless you go to the DMV and have a new photo made.

You should print out the "proof of renewal" page to carry with you while you wait on your new license. I believe it only took me a couple weeks to get my renewal in the mail.
You can continue to carry on an expired permit, so long as you keep your proof page with you until the replacement arrives. It's a simple process.

I went to the dmv in athens, They took my picture, I paid the renewal fee. I was told to keep the receipt and paperwork along with the old permit. I received my new permit 3 weeks later in the mail.

Just drove over to Straw Plains DMV. THE ONLY place for Knox Co. Four gub'ment "workers" and no less than forty folks waiting.......I'll mail it in and hope for the best

Mail-in was no problem for me.....don't sweat it. If you want to ease your mind, call them in about a week to ensure they received it.
Everytime I've called the office in Nashville, the ladies that handle permits have been beyond friendly. I'm sure they get a ton of calls about folks' permits, and if it bothers them, they sure don't let you know it.

I just went to the DMV and renewed mine, they took another photo. Took about 6 weeks to get new license.

Go to the one in Clinton. Never a line. Since it is a state permit, not a county permit, you can do it anywhere.

Same experience, except I went to the DMV in Millington.
