We already farm bees, rabbits, turkey, dove, quail, pheasant, buffalo and other animals for human use, whether it be for pets, meat, or hobby. Why not deer?
I believe this is a private property rights issue. If I want to fence my land and toy with raising deer, or whatever, I should be allowed to do it.
EHD has killed huge numbers in our state. Why are we so worried about CWD and the minimal numbers it has affected over the years, but seem to accept EHD as a normal occurrence?
I cant seem to follow the TWRA train of thought on this. We have Wild Hogs expanding all over this state even faster since they made it difficult for landowners and those who hunt them , which they claim in their hunting guide isn't even safe to eat because of all the disease they have and spread (let me quit laughing at that theory, knowing full well MANY states out west actually allow wild boar that are caught to be sold to MAIN STREAM PORK PRODUCERS that sell COMMERCIALLY) yet they wont allow them to be hunted effectively here and have actually helped them expand and become more prolific.
Yet they want to stop a private landowner from fencing his land and raising deer based on the THEORY that a single disease might possibly be spread? I am still scratching my head.

CWD is akin to the big bird and swine flu scare. It made a lot of scientists rich, and sent a lot of Federal $$ to colleges and research institutions all over the country.

Create a crisis, and milk it for all it is worth.

...if they want to farm deer, why not? Maybe it should be done on a trial basis and highly monitored and if it doesn't seem productive, then can the idea.
