What would you suggest for a person without dogs?

Find a friend with dogs LOL \:D

Seriously though your best bet without dogs is a good pair of boots. Hit the creeks and keep the wind in your face. Also listen for dogs bayed. If you find some dogs bayed wait for the owner to get there and see if they'll let you kill it. I don't care a bit to let you kill one off my dogs. Alot of houndsmen will be more than happy to let you kill one from there dogs but wait for them and ask.

Exit 340 off of I 40, Turn Right. Go about 3 miles and turn left on WMA road. It will take you straight into the bicolor side.

Would it make you feel better if I posted a pic of my Vet bills? Those hounds love what they do and I take very good care of them. Most people don't know what it takes to keep a good pack of dogs up.

Don't need to see "your" vet bills, I've got my own. Not saying you don't take care of your dogs either, those spent guns are proof of that. Just saying showing cut up dogs on this site doesn't do our kind any good

I understand what your saying. Probably not the smartest thing I've done today. I guess I figured with all the dead deer with there tongues hanging out, Coyotes and deer shot in the head, Turkeys with there face blown off and so on. Hopefully these guys will over look it. Most of these guys don't like us anyway

Ask in the TWRA forum, I would think you need a type 94 but I'm not %100 sure about that

Please for anyone coming and new to hog hunting please pay attention on what your shooting at and not get trigger happy and to excited most of the dogs that will be out there will be black and or brindle so its hard to tell the difference between dogs and pigs when coming through the woods. Some dogs dont bark so dont count on that either. Good luck to all going.

Well i just called the Region III Office and they told me the hog hunting didn't start until the 7th of January. Then i ask them if i need any other license instead of a type 001 and they told me that i didn't on this hunt so i'm good to go now.

Oh yeah, everything but that brindal dog can still go. Most of those cuts were just skin cuts. I had 3 dogs that I didn't take and that Walker wasn't mine. They might be a little sore but they'll work the soreness out. You can't keep them from hunting, they love it too much.

My buddy and I don't have any dogs but we plan on hitting the creek/ rivers in the thick areas. Typically if someones hound bays one the rest of the herd keep moving right? We are most familiar with Peavine but I know a few great spots over towards Genesis/ Myatt creek also.

Jarhead the one that got me didn't have half the teeth that one does. I think if it would have they would have backed off a little. But I couldn't even see it's teeth hanging out hardly. He was good with them though.

Carlos a single dog will bay the whole herd at times, a pack of dogs will normally single one out. This is something you just have to watch for but if you come up on a dog thats baying real loose (moving around alot and not really roaring)maybe around a brush pile or briar thicket then he's probably got more than one hog in there. They will break and run on you if you run in there like an bull. Slip in on bayed dogs quietly as possiable and you'll get to see a show

DON'T SHOOT A HOG WITH DOGS HANGING ALL OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also don't be afraid to shoot one from 2 inches away, thats right I said inches. The safety of the dogs is the most important part.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. I've never hunted them at all, let alone with dogs, but I can imagine the level of nervousness with all of the "tag-alongs" in the woods trying to pop one being chased.

Ive seen a couple with some hunter's orange kevlar vests (or whatever they make them out of).

Best of luck, and be safe!

Thats probably TWRA's goal,is to get as many hog doggers in there and get them thinned out..Or maybe you hog doggers fought so hard to get this hunt back,TWRA gave you guys just what you wanted???

Since wild hogs are no longer a big game animal and there are no hunting seasons for them, no hunting licenses are required. This control season is meant to be just that, an extra effort to control the population. The end goal, albeit next to impossible, is to remove all the hogs on Catoosa. A hunting season is a well-managed recreational opportunity with expectations of sustainability. We dont want to manage for hogs, we want them gone.

I know i shouldn't open this can of worms but i cant help myself sometimes. Please don't take this as bashing or out of context in any way. But why is it so important to remove them from Catoosa? I know it's got to cost a fortune when lots of folks would gladly kill them for free. I love killing them. I killed 3 just the other day

Some dogs get bad habits if someone picks them up on roads evertime.

Yes. Just leave them where you see them. If there on a busy road it's common practice to take a small piece of rope and tie them to a tree. Don't stick my dog in your Honda civic and take it to the animal shelter. LoL actually had that happen this year

Yeap what i usually do is take my lead and tie them to a tree and call the number on the collar. then tell them where their hound is and stay there until they get there to pick it up.

Any predictions on harvest numbers for this hunt? Its new and all, just excited to see how many hogs are left out there.

I expect many of them to flee across the golf course. \:\)

Excellent!

I talked with 2 houndsmen today who had one of their dogs run over on the road. They said they' only seen 2 hogs killed. Another of their hounds was lost in the woods.

Was it crowded?

When I left yesterday evening, after dark, there had been 7 hogs brought into the bicolor station.

There were very few people in the woods. There were only 3 or 4 groups camped at bicolor, and I only saw about 5 different vehicles all day.

There's at least two sets of hounds chasing over on Myatts Creek rd. They've been running for 2 hrs now back and forth. They're over in the tornado ravaged area- not heard any shooting yet.

We hunted over at Myatts Creek and the dogs sounded like they were after one. They never got it treed or whatever. Then I hiked down below the Scott Place. Found some hog sign down at the bottom but its several days old. With this many hunters and hounds out here it seems like they'd be moving very well....

\:D I heard that Diehard hunter told me and my brother that was hunting with us to wheel barrow that thing to the truck before we shot it. that way it would be easier to load it and not have to drag it from the bottom of the ridge LOL.

Took a ride across today. Lot different than Wednesday. Bet I seen over a hundred vehicles in there. All kinds of vehicles. All those houndsman and I bet they didn't kill 10 hogs. Seemed like everyone was enjoying themselves and seen lots of young'uns, which is a good thing. That weather is going to be hell through at least Tuesday.

Somebody's got to pay the bills. Haha.

I met a group of guys from Tellico Plains the other day. Also met a group from Cleveland. They were all pretty cool. I'm going back tomo despite the rain.

Oh yeah there were a couple others- almost forgot. I found their hound on my way out. They'd killed five hogs and only checked in one. The other 4-one of which was over 350# were left in the woods because removal was nearly impossible according to them.

Somebody got a nice one today. Was leaving about 11 and at the bicolor checking station there was a black one that was as long as the dog box it was laying on. Feet werent stretched either. That was nose to but a good 4.5ft. Had to be 250 easy.

I nearly had to be pulled out also. Those trails were slicker than I'd ever seen them. One place with grey clay was just like driving on ICE.

Did you get yanked out without any damage?

Yeah my rear bumper was hung on the ground and the drivers rear tire was off the ground. I radioed a buddy of mine and he was there to pull me out in about 15 mins. You can't hurt that old truck
