or have there been a VERY high number of VERY BIG bucks killed this year in Tennessee? Seems like VERY big bucks being killed all over the state this year. I know several people who have killed good ones.

Makes me wonder: is this the "good ole days" we'll tell our grandkids about or will it keep getting better? I think the latter.

Makes me kinda nervous. I hope we don't end up losing a lot of private land to $25/acre leases.

I think I'm gonna suggest a four-buck limit to the commission to hopefully slow it down a little. \:D

Seems like someone makes a post like this after every season.

Idk about statewide but I know Henderson, Decatur, and Chester all had 180 class deer killed this year. Its without a doubt been the best big buck year for our little tri-county area

Yeah, I guess so. Just seeing if it's just a localized thing, statewide, or just an regular after season post.

Master Chief hunts in the same county I do most of my hunting, so I was curious what he thought.

I don't know if this particular year was any better than normal as far a antler scores but I do think we are going to see a steady increase in older , bigger bucks in the comming years. More and more hunters are tired of shooting every buck they see and are getting more selective. As long as they are all doing it of their own free will, I think that's a good thing. What scares me though about this whole antler craze is that more people will see deer as a way to make money and it will slowly become a rich man's sport. Land owners already practically never let anyone hunt for free so you have to be pretty well off or join a club to afford the cost of a large lease. Hunting land itself used to considered worthless and sold cheap - if you could even get anybody to buy it. This same land today is selling for $3,000 to $5,000 per acre. Whitetail deer are the major reason for that change in my opinion. If you want to own your own land to hunt on, you better be able to let go of a big portion of a million dollars. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to be living in this time of plentiful deer. But there is a definite negative attached to it where big antlers are concerned. OF course, if people hadn't sold off their small farms in the past 20 to 30 years, many families would still have places to hunt for free..........

I think what we are seeing is a result of the EHD several years ago.Populations in many counties were severlly effected and now the population is on the upswing. When the deer population is on the upswing you altler size will also be bigger. It will level off when [populations reach or excead carring capacity.

Also helps when more hunters pass up smaller bucks.

Good theory, Mr. Bro!

I think it adds credibility to TWRA's management, specifically liberal bag limits.

We like to bash people who kill more deer than we do, but I think if the harvest were higher than it is there would be noticeable difference in hunter satisfaction for trophy hunters, QDMAers, and meat hunters. And just plain ol' regular deer hunters.

I think these are defiitely the good ol days of hunting in TN. I dont however foresee them going away or getting worse anytime soon. Hunter mindset has changed alot, along with growing #'s of deer in parts of the state that just 10 yrs ago didnt have good #'s of deer. Its getting better overall imo!

Dang, 160" 8 points aren't common! I'll send you something you may find neat here in a little while.
