For the last few weeks I was having problems with my main remote control, it got so bad I had to change channels on the DRV receiver itself. The other remote worked fine, no problems at all. We called Dish and the lady tried her best to help us but they had to send a new remote. Now this weekend we got the new remote all set up and working except when I want to change channels or get the guide I have to hold the remote right in front of the infraed sensor that get the IR singles from my remote, I'm talking inches away. I can turn the TV on and off from anywhere in the room with the same remote.
The main remote and the DVR/receiver is in my bedroom so I can control everything and Mom doesn't hit a "rent it" by mistake with the other remote on the living room.
I've cleaned the sensor with the same stuff I clean the TV with and that didn't help. I took the new off brand battries out and put new Energizer battries in but still no good. I ever unpluged the receiver twice for a few minutes so it would reset but it didn't help.
Now I have two questions. Is there anything else I can try?
Now I'm thinking I'll have to get a new receive/DVR when I call Dish again. Is there any way I can copy some things I have on my DVR???? I have the 2012 Final Four on the DVR and would hate to lose that so soon and hope to save that some how.

I have Directv and they told me that you can not transfer anything from the DVR to like a disc or whatever. I'm not sure about dish.
My remote is not perfect either. Sometimes I have to push the button twice to get it to do what I want.
The repair dude told me that some DVRs and remotes just don't work perfectly and never will.
One problem I have is time. I don't give it the few seconds it MAY need to do what I want and so I keep pushing the dang button, mostly out of habit and frustration. The repair dude told me that some DVRs may take as long as 5-8 seconds to do what you wish, like change channels. Not sure why. Repeatedly pushing the button in frustration simply compounds the problem, but i still can't help but do it.
Maybe if your mom isn't remote savvy, she may be messing it up somehow while you're not there. maybe not.
good luck with this
