I was talking with a friend yesterday that said he heard a gamewarden ask a guy if he'd been hunting . The guy said yes so the game warden was looking in his truck and his gun was loaded not sure about in the chamber or not . Then the warden took the guys gun .
Is it illegal to have a loaded rifle in the truck ? I know you can have a loaded pistol with a carry permit . What would the difference be ? I unload mine as soon as I get to the truck just wondering incase you forgot to .

It is illegal to have a loaded gun (outside of the carry permit provision) on a WMA or PHA.

Is there a definition in TCA for loaded?

1. One in the chamber = Loaded
2. Clip in, but nothing in chamber = ???

It cannot be loaded in the chamber or in the magazine, including a detachable magazine.

I was thinking about this today while in the stand.lol.. I HAVE my carry permit so is it legal for me to have my rifle loaded in the truck when Im headed home. Not that I have any reason to keep it loaded but more "just curious"?? Or when you say "carry permit provision" does that mean my pistol?

Under the carry permit you may legally have a long gun in the vehicle loaded in the magazine but not in the chamber. The only time it can be loaded in the chamber is if you can articulate that your life is in danger.

My carry permit says HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT on it. I wouldn't think a long gun would be considered a handgun....

True, but the new law allows us as HCP holders to Ave a long gun in the truck as long as there is not one in the chamber.

With a handgun carry permit you can have ammo loaded in your magazine but not your chamber.
I just took the hand gun class Saturday.
For a concealed loaded weapon your carry permit only permits your handgun, with the exception of loaded in your magazine. With a permit you can not carry ammo in your magazine or chamber they must be separate from your rifle.

Check your last sentence. I don't think it is correct.

Isn't the intent of the law regarding no loaded guns in vehicles to prevent hunters from shooting game from the vehicle?

I thought it was legal to have a loaded detachable magazine though. IF not, then I see no point in the bolt action rifles with a detachable magazine.

It's legal to have your rifle, as a HCP holder in the truck, car, whatever and have the mag. loaded and in the mag well, just not one in the chamber.

Are you positive about that? I don't think so. IF the magazine is loaded and in the rifle then it is easy to stop the vehicle and fire a shot out the window at a game animal. The very act the law against loaded guns in vehicles is attempting to prevent.
