Who makes a 17hmr with a regular light barrel? All I can find have bull barrels on them. I had one and loved shooting it but the bull barrel made it too heavy to carry far.

Savage 93R17 have several versions with a light/sporter barrel and Browning has one.

I saw the savages on their website but never seen one at a gun shop so I figured they were discontinued. My wife called around and only found 1 light barrel but its in Alabama. Why does no one carry them in a standard barrel? The brownings are out since I won't spend that kind of money on a rimfire and the CZ's I don't care for because of the backward safety.

I wish you lived here close and could actually shoot these CZ rimfire rifles I have,,I didn`t like the safety at first either but man after you get used to it and shoot a couple bricks through one all the other current made rimfires just feel cheap to me,,
the Savage rifles do shoot very well but I just have gotten to where I appreciate a good blue steel rifle with a nice wood stock, the triggers are easily tuned to less than a pound and they shoot lights out,,

I've had CZ .22's and they shot fine. I just never could get used to the safety on them. Why do they call it an American model then put a safety on them that's backwards to every American gun made? I don't see me buying another CZ unless they change the safety or I find a can't pass up deal on one.

there was a guy on 22rimfirecentral.com some years back that offered a safety that set them up to push forward to fire. Might check there.
