I got a sound bar for Christmas.
I tried to hook it up to the TV HDMI input from the soundbar to the TV. Didn't work.
I have a DVD player, Direct TV hooked up as well. Does the Sound bar have to run through the Direct TV box(or the DVD player)? Both are in another room through a wall. It would be a pain to have to hook it up that way.
Thanks.

I hooked my Mothers up yesterday. She has cable and a dvd. I hooked the sound bar up directly to the tv. The dvd is hooked to input 1 and there were still room on input 1 to plug in the sound bar.

Bama, I think you have to adjust your audio settings on your TV after hooking up the soundbar.

Make sure the soundbar is connected to an audio output connection on your TV. Most of the connections on your TV will be for audio input (input from a DVD player, satellite receive, etc). The HDMI connection that you used sounds like an audio input connection, not an audio output connection. Sometimes the only audio output connection on the TV will be a standard audio connection (using the standard red and white cables) and not a HDMI. There will usually only be one or two audio output connections on a TV. Sometimes the audio output connection is labeled as "aux speakers" or something like that.
Next, go into your TV menu and turn off the TV speakers. Some TV's may also require you to use the TV menu to turn on the audio output connections or aux speakers.
You can also hook up directly from the DVD and satellite receiver to the soundbar, but then you will have to change the input to the soundbar when you switch between those two devices. If you connect from the TV audio output, then the soundbar should play sound from whatever is playing on the TV. In this configuration you won't have to switch the input on the soundbar when you switch from DVD to satellite. Either way, you should use the TV menu to turn off your TV's internal speakers because you don't want them putting out sound along with the soundbar.
If you still have problems then take a picture of all of your TV connections and that should help us to figure it out.

Gonna be rocking in BamaProuds household for sure. I wish it wasn't such a late game though.
