As long as the XD is reliable, its a great choice...as would be the glock. I too was a huge fan of ccw with a 1911 until the day everything went bad outside a jewelry store. In a nano-second i realized my problem and everything in my world became crystal clear. A 1911 against 1or 2 armed individuals works well, but against 4 armed robbers that are spread out... you dont want to be fumbling with reloading when multiple adversaries are 20 feet away or less. Carry a reliable firearm that holds as many bullets as you can get into it. That means an XD or a high cap Glock. I still love 1911's, but they are not the answer if you walk into a multiple adversary situation. And the problem is you never know when that situation is going to come up. If you did, you would be bringing a shotgun. my 1911 holds 8 or 10 depending on the magazine i'm using. i figure if 8 is not enough, 8 more won't be either. and i will not be confronting 4 armed robbers.
And you never know when an ugly situation might find you. I dont hope that on anybody but you never know

I have had 2 XD compact and Sub Compact loved them both. I know have 2 Glock a glock 31 .357 Full size and a Glock 27 .40 Cal Sub Compact. I use the Glock 27 as my Carry gun I can hide it anywhere and as I set all the time in the chair it is easy to conceal. You didn't go wrong both a good Guns the glock is just a little bit higher end Gun. It is all in your preference.

Lots of Glock-Haters in the room this morning Leader - if you're ever on the west side maybe we can run over to the indoor range. I never liked the blocky Glocks, until I'd put several hundred thru a few and saw how remarkably well I placed shots with em. I still think they're a block but trust my life with it. I've had MULTIPLE 1911's and with all of them, a finicky mag or feed ramp has caused some, even slight intermittent, feed issue. That's what made me like a Glock - I shoot it well - it never ever fails to go bang....and I've now shot thousands of Glock cycles....never a miss fire, and I'm told the XD's are the same but can't speak for that simply due to a lack of range time with em
Well you know I'll make it over at some point for something and I'd be all for heading to the range.....

You bought the right round and a great gun.. All you have to do now is become very comfortable with using it.. Getting comfortable will cost you a bit in ammo, but, what's 3 or 400 dollars and another 50 or so a month - to know you can draw and fire on target to save your life it you had to?
Post a pic of that XD!! Which one did you get? Wow...quite an overwhelming response. Lots of great opinions! I'm starting to feel better about the purchase. Gonna put about 100 rounds thru it today.
Nice!!!! Now, try some different holsters!!! Read up, borrow a few - see what works best for you.. I have a buddy in Jackson who probably has 15-20 diff styles for XD's - good prices too - 'be glad to hook you up! He's into PD supply etc and knows his stuff on guns/holsters
