I have been told that the hardest part about hunting Mt Goats is drawing the tag. If this is something you really want to get into it might benefit you to research the states that offer preference points and start building them now. I know nothing about this, but I have seen a lot of them in western WY, those long white coats are hard to hide!
Alaska non-res goat hunters do have to hire a guide or be hunting with an Alaskan resident. My brother is getting stationed in Fairbanks in 2013, so I am hoping he will establish residency so he can be my guide!

I've hunted goat on Kodiak on a do it yourself tip and also helped a buddy with his up towards Valdez last year. Goat hunting is a lot of fun and all depends on what type of hunt you want. Boat, vehicle or drop off. Most places the goat tag isnt hard to draw for non res and there are numerous units with over the counter tags available. Non res must hire a guide and a few of my buddys guide and they get anywhere from $7000 on up to $1000, like I said all dependson what type of hunt your looking for. Hope it helps, if you have any questions shoot me a PM and I will help anyway I can.
