Got some deer steaks in the fridge I plan on grilling after church with my new grill I got for Christmas. How do some of you marinade or prepare them for grilling?

I like apple juice for marinade, plus my own custom dry rub right before grilling.

If you like Asian cuisine, then a marinade based around some soy sauce works well. We did one once with soy, honey, bit of brown sugar, and garlic (add something spicy if you want to go in that direction). It worked well on some cubed steak that we put on kabobs on the grill.

Marinades and seasonings are OK sometimes, but the biggest factor in a tasty venison steak is cook time - if you overcook it, it won't be pleasant.

Squeeze the flesh of your hand on the "web" between your thumb and index finger - that's a good test for what a medium rare steak will feel like. If you want it slightly more done than that, then that's your business. But if you push on the steak while cooking and it doesn't have much "give", then you are in the danger zone of having a piece of shoe leather.

Cook one properly, and they are great with nothing but kosher salt, cracked black pepper, and perhaps some garlic.

By itself, Apple Juice is not a marinade. A marinade must contain acid, fat and salt to work. The apple juice has some acidity which will tenderize the meat, but will not achieve the same result as a marinade.
