Nah. Think I'll go find someone 400 miles away that's stuck and tell him what he doesn't need sight unseen. Then I can be an internet know it all like you.

I think if you like the way the gun shoots, feels in your hand, and you will carry it, then you made the right choice. If you leave it at the house because it is too big or uncomfortable, then you made a bad choice. The whole premise behind choosing a carry firearm is choose one that you will carry and not leave at home or in the truck. I rotate between the Glock 26 and 19, Kahr CM9, Ruger SP101 2", and S&W 915. Depending on the weather and the clothes that I am wearing at the time, determines which one goes with me that day. But, regardless of what I am wearing, I never leave home without one of them being on my side or in my pocket.

I carry a G36 right now, fits me very well, but love the XD line and the compact 1911's (which I carried for years as well) Any of those 3 are fine for me, provided they will shoot 45acp ;\)

Hate Glocks and love 1911's.
If you want a 1911 I would have waited. No idea on the XD but always wanted to shoot one.
And I tend to agree with Stik, if 8-10 ain't enough it won't matter.
I don't care if you have 30 or 100 if you come across 4 armed people and aren't trained for that situation it won't matter, you'll probably be dead.
I am not a trained individual either just being honest in that situation with 15 rounds instead of 8 unless the bad guys flee your probably just prolonging your life by about 20-30 seconds....

You bought the right round and a great gun.. All you have to do now is become very comfortable with using it.. Getting comfortable will cost you a bit in ammo, but, what's 3 or 400 dollars and another 50 or so a month - to know you can draw and fire on target to save your life it you had to?

Post a pic of that XD!! Which one did you get?

I agree. Well placed rounds from a 45 are show stoppers!

I too was a huge fan of ccw with a 1911 until the day everything went bad outside a jewelry store. In a nano-second i realized my problem and everything in my world became crystal clear. A 1911 against 1or 2 armed individuals works well, but against 4 armed robbers that are spread out... you dont want to be fumbling with reloading when multiple adversaries are 20 feet away or less.
Carry a reliable firearm that holds as many bullets as you can get into it.

That means an XD or a high cap Glock.
I still love 1911's, but they are not the answer if you walk into a multiple adversary situation. And the problem is you never know when that situation is going to come up. If you did, you would be bringing a shotgun.

Was that recently in Tn. ? or somewhere else a while back ?? I'd love to hear the rest of the story.

my 1911 holds 8 or 10 depending on the magazine i'm using. i figure if 8 is not enough, 8 more won't be either. and i will not be confronting 4 armed robbers.

-------------------------------

You will get no argument from me brother. Never thought i would be in that situation either.
There is an old expression...nothing ever happens, until it does.
Funny thing was that a year before that incident i was talking with a man who had been carjacked. He actually had a small 32 caliber pistol on him. He told me that the 3 guys that jacked him were all armed, and that everything became clear to him in an instant. He didnt have enough gun or enough bullets.
I listened to him and was arrogant enough to believe a situation like that would never happen to me. Until it did.
Then i lost my arrogance and put my pride aside and picked the right tool for the job.
I hope no one on this board ever has to face armed attackers. If you do you will spend many many hours analyzing every detail after the fact. And if people get hurt, as in my case, it becomes a very real situation of "what could i have done differently".
Which gun to carry is a personal choice. Carry a flintlock if you want. But understand that when 'bad' comes to visit you are going to be limited to whatever options you have in hand, and 'bad' may come with a carload of friends.
You may not get to hand pick the situations where you are forced to shoot.
