Does TWRA have any plans to open this back up?

The land that was the Cumberland springs WMA. Was leased by the TWRA from the Motlow family (they owned Jack Daniels). When the lease ran out, the famly leased/sold the land to private individuals who attempted to run a guided hunting operation on it. That hunting operation failed, but the land is still leased to private individuals.

Since there is absolutely no way the TWRA can afford to pay what private individuals are paying, there is no way to get the lease back.

A prime example of how hunting is slowly becoming a wealthy mans sport. I loved hunting that area, and killed many deer there, but the almighty dollar won out in the end, and a large chunk of public hunting land became private overnight. Of course you can still hunt there, if you can pony up enough dough.

Yeah I really enjoyed the late October gun hunts at Cumberland Springs. My cousin and I killed several deer there. But it was never publicly owned land-it was leased private land and so it goes. It is too bad TWRA didn't own it.
