Well...I nixed the AR deal....I'm going to find just the right handgun and go get my ccp ...wife says she wants to do that for me as an early bday gift ....I will get more use of my money spending that way than on an AR

Distance depends on shooter and scope. You can effectively range to 300 yards with the right combintation. I would recommend a minimuin 65gr soft point though but running that through the bushmaster is questionable. I don't know what the twist is but you need a 1:7 or 1:8 twist to have accuracy for heavy grain projectiles.

the 9 twist will handle most bullets up to 75 grs,,

I use a Colt AR15 for coyotes when deer and turkey are not in season.
It works really, really well for that purpose.
I'm not sure that I would use a .223 on deer. It will kill a deer, but I've always looked at it like this: I spend way too much time sitting waiting on the perfect buck to come along to not use the perfect rifle/caliber for it.
5.56 (.223) is not really the "perfect" caliber for deer, but it will work.
How would you like to have a monster buck come by, and you shoot it with your AR15, and it runs off. You track for hours, and never find the deer...
The whole time you are thinking, "Man, if I had just used my 30-06, or .270, or 7mm, or whatever else besides this .223".

a bad shot with the 06,270 or 7mm will have the same results. i am not a fan of the smaller calibers for deer. i don't even like the 243 but a 223 in the hands of a CAPABLE shooter is just as deadly as a 30-06

Who said an AR15 has to be .223? One of the AR15s I hunt with is chambered in 300blk.
