I wouldn't trade my xd for nothing except maybe a real nice 1911. So I think you made a good choice in the situation u had.

As long as the XD is reliable, its a great choice...as would be the glock. I too was a huge fan of ccw with a 1911 until the day everything went bad outside a jewelry store. In a nano-second i realized my problem and everything in my world became crystal clear. A 1911 against 1or 2 armed individuals works well, but against 4 armed robbers that are spread out... you dont want to be fumbling with reloading when multiple adversaries are 20 feet away or less. Carry a reliable firearm that holds as many bullets as you can get into it. That means an XD or a high cap Glock. I still love 1911's, but they are not the answer if you walk into a multiple adversary situation. And the problem is you never know when that situation is going to come up. If you did, you would be bringing a shotgun.
my 1911 holds 8 or 10 depending on the magazine i'm using. i figure if 8 is not enough, 8 more won't be either. and i will not be confronting 4 armed robbers.

Shoot it. You might love it and you might hate it. I have only had one Glock in my hand that felt right. Others love the feel. They are extremely reliable but the XD seems to be a great gun, too. If you don't like the one you bought you can sell it later and get something else. I like the 1911's but cannot afford the one I want. I don't know that I would have chosen one over my Kahr, though. That is the one that fits my hand perfectly.

Have both and love both. If it fits you then you made right decision. And just a suggestion, use a .22 caliber for your CCW if possible your wallet will thank you.

Doesn't sound like he "confronted" 4 armed robbers. Sounds like he walked into a jewelry store where there was a robbery in progress. Too bad he wasn't all knowing like stik and didn't use his x ray vision to see through the walls before he walked in.

Got a XD .40 subcompact on my hip now sitting in a tree stand. Had it for years and NEVER a FTF.

Inside, outside, whatever. I don't think he was trying to be billy badass and take on as many armed assailants as he could find. He found himself in a situation he didn't want to be in. (The whole reason to carry in the first place). He should've sensed what the day had in store and stayed home like all knowing stik would have.
