What would one of these be worth beautifully restored chambered in 30/30? I am not the authority on gun values!

The restoration destroys any collector value. 30-30 was the most common caliber. The only other option for the years 1946-1974 was 32 Win. Spl. 32's will fetch 10-15% more.

Since it still retains value as an excellent hunting rifle, one could expect it to fetch between $300-400. If it were a pre-64 it would bring a better price. A 30-30 in excellent condition would sell for $500-600.

I have hunted, shot, and collected model 94's and other Winchesters for 30+ years. They peaked in value about seven or eight years ago and have fallen off somewhat since. With the current craze over high capacity semi-autos the old Winchesters have moved to the backburner. For buyers that's good news!

Ive kind of been wondering the same thing. Ive got one that numbers to 1954 and it appears to have hardly been shot. I guess Ive had it 20 years and fired it just a few times. I had heard the pre 64s were worth more ......but really didnt know.

The pre-64's are better quality rifles. They were made from all milled parts. Their fit and finish is of better quality as well. In 1964 Winchester began to cut corners in order to cut manufacturing costs. For a few years quality was fair at best. In some instances it was outright poor. In the late 60's things began to improve somewhat but never returned to the pre-64 level of craftsmanship.

If your rifle is 90+% condition, it should bring $500-600. If it's absolutely PERFECT with the original box it would command well over $1000.

Compare a pre-64 with a newer manufactured rifle and you will be able to tell.

Remington followed the same path some years later but has never corrected the problem. Their quality started dimininishing in the 80's and has dropped to such a low level that, in my opinion, their products made since the mid-90's are just a step above junk.

Thanks for the replies! I understand the rifle would be worth more in original condition but it is what it is. It has been re-done but not very well to say the least. I can get it at a pretty decent price and tear it down and finish it correctly. More or less just to have a project to work on (like I need another one!). That's why I asked about the value, to be sure it would be worth more after I'm done with it vs what I pay for it.
