Bet that thing smacked your cheek bone pretty good too! Would a plain round ball have worked? Quite a bit lighter.

Luckily, the way the stock is cut, it doesn't kick the face at all. But if you hold it a little wrong, it has the potential to break your collarbone.
It doesn't have the slow twist rate of a good round-ball gun (1:66). It has a 1:48 twist, which in that caliber, is designed for conicals.

Had a buddy that used to have a old school double, it weighed about 50lbs seemed like! Got another buddy that carries two m.l.'s for a second shot.

Dang BSK!...I target shoot 535 grain .577 minies with 45 to 55 grains 2fg powder. The Civil War standard load ran between 60 and 70 grains with a 500 grainer and It'll give you a pretty good thumpin. Can't imagine shooting the load you were using.
