How's the hunting been? I've been out a few times and seen deer more than half the times, but haven't killed any since opening morning of gun. I know ImThere has killed some and nimrod has killed one as well but haven't heard from anyone else here lately. I've also seen a total of 2 other hunters in the woods in 4 days throughout gun season. Seen trucks in the usual spots though, the spots I drive past. Wondering who else has had any luck there recently.

I have always wanted to try hunting there, but having never hunted public land, didn't know where/how to even get started.

I remember when I first wanted to start hunting on WMA's and ran into a TWRA agaent at a hunting show and asked the same question. His response was "just go into the woods and hunt". I would suggest that you get a map of the place and after deer season start walking as much of the property as you can. I lived 3 miles from Yanahili for 2 years and never hunted it because I was just not sure "how" to hunt public land.

a map of the WMA and google earth is a start, and avoid the big tracts of land with easy access. I have a satellite map of the WMA if you haven't got it I can pm you the link after I get home from hunting.

I miss when it used to close on the 15th. I remember it wasn't a question of i you were going to see deer but how many.

The good news is, I am not afraid to get in their early, and I am not afraid to hike in farther than what I think most people are willing to hunt... lol.

I might just have to put foot to the ground after the season is over and see what there is to see.

I have been there several times this year. Got a nice buck and a small doe. I have not seen any hunters in the woods, but have seen a few at their vehicles here and there. there are lots of deer there and I have seen several big boys.
