To date, I've used AA 5744 powder for all of my Savage MLII loads. However, I've seen a couple of loads calling for the Vihtavuori N120 powder that I think I want to experiment with before next season.
Is there a source for this powder around middle TN?

Just checked Midsouth shooters in Clarksville. They are out of it but expect it soon. I'm in the Knoxville area and there is a store out here that sells it if you are ever out this way. I tried N120 but had better luck all the way around with Reloder 7. It is every bit as reliable as 5744 but has lower pressures, higher FPS, easier on ventliners, and burns very cleanly. 63 grains with 300gr projectile nets around 2200 FPS.

I love the Vit powders. N110 and N120. I use the N120 in both my .50s and .45s with outstanding reliable results.Accuracy with certain powders out of the hit and miss .50 cal barrels can and will vary.My first choice is always N120 followed by RE-7. The N120 burns cleaner.RE-7 is a double based powder as is 5744 and as CR500 mentioned is ultra reliable with the higher nitro content. Thats not to say that the N120 is unreliable as it certainly is as I have torture tested it like I did the 5744. I subjected the loaded gun to the freezer test, indoor outdoor test and minus windchill factors. It has always went bang to POI.My first range session with the .45 included IMR-4198-RE-7 and N120.All groups under 1in @ 100yds with the IMR-4198 and Re-7 in a tie for second place with a 3/4 in group and the N120 shot a tight one hole group. Shooting N120 out of my .50 always resulted in MOA groups with my best group running 3in c-t-c @ 300 yds.Try it you may find you like it as much as I do!

Even if N120 shot as good as Re7 or 4759 I would still opt for either of those because of the price difference. Best price for a pound I found around Clarksville was $36. I can get the others for 25 so I'm sticking with them.

Tasaman that is expensive! I just bought 4 lbs @ $28 per lb. I always have enough on hand and when I do buy it is in bulk. All powder has gone up in recent years.

Cecil, I ordered a pound of N120 from Fox and Co. a couple weeks ago and they charged me $38.99 plus tax. They said it went up. I was not happy. I told them what you paid and they didn't seem to care much. I'm done with them.
