What's the oddest or craziest or just non-mainstream thing you have consumed?

I've eaten rattlesnake several times.
Live shrimp numerous times. ...well technically not alive since you need to de-head and peel just before eating. They are pretty good, straight out of the net.
Ate tons of Coot growing up(we called them Puldoo)
But the two oddest things I ate were a Nutria and an Armadillo.

Nutria is on my Bucket List for sure. Buffalo Balls might be up there. Uhh.... Let me see: Boar Eyeballs, duck tongues and venison kidney all come to mind.

Barbecued raccoon? I can't think of anything weird at the moment.

It was very good. My cousin was the cook. I don't recall the details of how long he cooked it or anything, but I do remember it being completely wrapped in foil. The meat is dark and pretty moist.
I cooked one on my own with some sort of recipe involving pineapple (Hawaiian raccoon? Lol), but that was pretty lame. I've decided to never cook with pineapple again :). I just don't like the cooked taste of it.
Raccoon in general is decent table fare, they are just a bit of trouble to clean. Several glands to cut off, and kinda tough to skin.

Some kind of lizard I ate in Korea. Not really sure what it was because of the language barrier. It was pretty good but for about an hour after I ate it I had the strange desire to suddenly dart up the side of every tree I walked by...
Frog Legs are very good and we hunted them almost every night in the summer when I was growing up. I wouldn't consider that to be weird at all.
I've consumed every part of a hog, brains, ears, tails, feet, chittlins.
Rooster fries, calf fries, mountain oysters and as of last week Bison fries...
Chicken feet and while not bad lets face it...there ain't much to eat on a chicken foot...
Squirrel brains was something my grandfather and I used to eat together when I was a kid. Haven't eaten them since I was a teenage but they were pretty dam good...
That's about all I can think of...right now. LoL

I guess Sweetbreads count as "mainstream", but they sure are good and a lot of people are disgusted by the idea of eating them.

The best thing I've ever eaten that probably wouldn't be considered "mainstream" is bbq coon. They had been eating corn out of the barn for about 2 month, they finally got to expensive so I trapped one and grilled him. Was surprisingly good. Also tried ground hog one time that I shot while bow fishing. 1. I will never shoot one like that again. 2. I will never eat that again.

On a related note for this thread, there are videos on YouTube about cleaning Asian carp (jumping silver carp) that make it sound like decent table fare. I hope to have the time to give that a shot once next year ...basically just to say I did.

My family spent a couple weeks visiting my dad's old Navy buddy in Vetralla, Italy about 15 years ago. It was in the middle of some big town festival, and they had a 5-course dinner down in one of the wine storage caves in town. Everything was phenomenal.....they set down this plate in front of us, and it had some opaque looking something or another chunked out. The sauce was incredible, but the chunks were nothing but gristle. SOmething was lost in translation, but they told us it was pork nerves. I ate EVERYTHING....except that. I think it was chunked up cartilage or something....no telling what it was.
