Im thinking of purchasing a new rig, and I was wanting to get Yalls input on a new gun. I was thinking about buying a .17 hmr any suggestions on that caliber

I'd go .223 or 22-250. Or if you want the .17 maybe a .17 fireball.

17 hmr is lots of fun to shoot - not sure about hunting with it. Might try with the game points - I've put a round through both sides of a metal barrel with them. Nice thing is that they are accurate enough you can go for head shots as long as there is no wind.

They are fun to shoot and as was said they will blow the head clean off a squirrel.
Really would doubt their effectiveness on a coyote though. Unless it was close and you could get a head shot maybe.

Perhaps a bit on the light side for coyote. I use a .22-250.

I don't think its heavy enough for yotes.
Go over to youtube & watch how eastern coyotes react when shot.
Some go right down, others that are hit pretty good get away.
For their size, they can take some abuse.

They are a blast to shoot and accurate. I have never lost a yote with mine. Head or neck and they go down. Have shot 3 behind the shoulder....they run 30-40yards and pile up. With that said, there better choices for a coyotes.
