Put this question up over on Bass Boat Central. There are some real outboard "geeks" over there. Geeks being a good thing.

Yea, what Winchester said... 4-stroke baby (preferably a Yamaha).

Although I understand it can be cost prohibitive, but when the time comes for a new outboard, go 4-stroke. If you run a lot, the savings in gas and oil will make up the extra cost (not to mention quiet-running and convenience).

It has a gear pump that puts the oil in... if you don't unhook that then you're gonna screw something up. It can be done... but do it the right way if you're going to instead of just not adding oil to the oil tank.

You need to unhook the oil pump. (2 wires) Then just mix your oil/gas directly in the tank. I've done it 1000 times. No issues.
