In an Urban Institute study for the Department of Justice (pdf), Jeffrey Roth and Christopher Koper find that the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban was responsible for a 6.7 percent decrease in total gun murders, holding all other factors equal. They write: “Assault weapons are disproportionately involved in murders with multiple victims, multiple wounds per victim, and police officers as victims.”
Guess what.... all other factors are NOT equal!

The NFA provision will never make it. There are currently 19 full time NFA examiners and about 10 part time contractor hires. Approvals are running 5 to 7 months. It would require at least 1000 more examiners to accomplish registration of hundreds of millions of weapons. Won't happen.

That's one of Obama's DREAM JOBS, more union govt jobs he can give out. Also if it takes you and me 10 years to get another gun well that will tickle Obama so much he will feel a twickle down his leg. Plus he will get to spend a few more BILLIONS to put the program in place.

I hate to say it, but one more incident like the one in Connecticut, and the NFA provision might well make it. The gun-grabbers smell blood and they have momentum and initiative at the moment.

I can't help but think states may tell the feds to get screwed on this. Sentiment on states rights vs the feds is almost to a boiling point. Organized rallys at state capitals by legal gun owners may tip the scale on this one.
